Danzi, Franz (Ignaz), German composer and teacher; b. Schwetzingen, June 15, 1763; d. Karlsruhe, April 13, 1826. He received primary instruction in music from his father, Innocenz Danzi, a cellist; later took theory lessons with Abbé Vogler. In 1783 he joined the Court Orch. in Munich; then (1807— 12) served as Kapellmeister at Stuttgart, where he was the teacher of Carl Maria von Weber. He was an excellent singing teacher, and wrote vocal exercises of practical value.
